Product Description

Bare aluminum and aluminum alloy sheets for food packaging are covered by IS 15392:2003. This standard specifies requirements for bare annealed aluminum foil and aluminum alloys used in food packaging. Each pack of bare aluminum foil and aluminum alloy can be properly marked to identify the manufacturer's name, quality, material condition, batch number and manufacturing date. Standard symbols (ISI symbols) can also be applied to aluminum packages.

Manufacturers must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use standard symbols (ISI symbols). The office issues licenses based on a proper assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, production processes, quality control, and testing capabilities during a visit to the manufacturing facility.

Application fee: 1,000/- INR
Annual fee: 1,000/- INR
BIS inspection fee: 7,000/- INR
Minimum marking fee: Rs. 99000 for Large Scale , Rs. 80000 for Medium Scale, Rs. 80000 for Small Scale and Rs. 80000 for Micro Scale Enterprises units.
BIS testing fee: 15,000/- INR (approx.)

Concession in Govt. Fee for new startups and micro units:

Concession in the minimum marking fee (Govt. Fee) for new startups or micro units turnover less than 5 crore.

Step by step procedure to apply BIS certification for aluminium foil:

Step 1.Pre-testing of the product from a third-party laboratory approved by BIS.
Step 2. Filing of the application along with requisite documents on the BIS Manak portal.
Step 3. Payment of the government fee as applicable.
Step 4. Scrutiny of the application by the BIS officers.
Step 5. Factory inspection will be conducted by the BIS officer at the factory premises.
Step 6. During factory inspection, BIS officer will check plant layout, process flow chart, competency of the QCI Person, testing facilities, etc., and after verification, samples will be sealed by the BIS officer.
Step 7. Dispatch the samples sealed by the BIS officer during inspection to the concerned BIS Central laboratory and submit the POD (proof of delivery) of the samples on the BIS Manak Portal.
Step 8. After the final examination of all the documents by the head of the BIS Department, the license for BIS on packaged drinking water will be granted.

Expected BIS License delivery period:

30 to 45 days

As per the quality control order, BIS certification is mandatory for manufacturers of the packaged drinking water to sell them in the Indian Market.
