IS 302-2-201:2008 covers electric immersion water heaters. The Bureau of Indian Standards has adopted this Indian Standard (Part 2/Section 201) (first revision) after the Electrotechnical Sector Council approved the draft finalized by the Electrical Equipment Sector Committee.
This standard covers the safety requirements for portable electric immersion heaters for domestic use and similar applications with a rated voltage not exceeding 250 V. This standard applies to equipment that is not intended for normal domestic use but may pose a danger to the public, such as equipment used by non-professionals in shops, light industry, farms, etc.
Immersion type heaters have a resistance heating wire enclosed in a ceramic jacket, which is then surrounded by a jacket. The jacket can be made of copper, stainless steel, cast iron, titanium, or PFA coating.

- Minimum marking fee: Rs. 155000 for Large Scale , Rs. 124000 for Medium Scale, Rs. 124000 for Small Scale and Rs. 124000 for Micro Scale Enterprises units.

Step 1. Pre-testing of the product from a third-party laboratory approved by BIS.
Step 2. Filing of the application along with requisite documents on the BIS Manak portal.
Step 3. Payment of the government fee as applicable.
Step 4. Scrutiny of the application by the BIS officers.
Step 5. Factory inspection will be conducted by the BIS officer at the factory premises.
Step 6. During factory inspection, BIS officer will check plant layout, process flow chart, competency of the QCI Person, testing facilities, etc., and after verification, samples will be sealed by the BIS officer.
Step 7. Dispatch the samples sealed by the BIS officer during inspection to the concerned BIS Central laboratory and submit the POD (proof of delivery) of the samples on the BIS Manak Portal.
Step 8: After the final examination of all the documents by the head of the BIS Department, the license for BIS on wheel rims will be granted.
