DPIIT, Ministry of Trade and Industry, Government of India has mandated that all electric ceiling fans in India, whether manufactured in India or imported from abroad, bear the Bureau of Indian Standards standard mark on a valid BIS license. We have issued regulations requiring this. This means that all electric ceiling fan manufacturers, whether in India or abroad, must immediately apply for BIS license and obtain a valid BIS license by the last date of implementation of the regulation i.e. 02-02-2024.
IS 374:2019 sets safety and performance requirements for electric ceiling fans, ensuring they meet the highest quality, durability and efficiency standards. IS 374:2019 covers various important parameters that electric ceiling fans must comply with, such as energy efficiency, electrical safety, and mechanical stability. This comprehensive standard addresses the challenges posed by rapid technological advances and sets benchmarks for energy consumption, airflow, noise level and other factors.

- Application fee: 1,000/- INR
- Annual fee: 1,000/- INR
- BIS inspection fee: 7,000/- INR
- Minimum marking fee: Rs. 65000 for Large Scale , Rs. 52000 for Medium Scale, Rs. 52000 for Small Scale and Rs. 52000 for Micro Scale Enterprises units.
- BIS testing fee: 18,000/- INR (approx.)
Concession in the minimum marking fee (Govt. Fee) for new startups or micro units turnover of less than 5 crore

Step 1. Pre-testing of the product from a third-party laboratory approved by BIS.
Step 2. Filing of the application along with requisite documents on the BIS Manak portal.
Step 3. Payment of the government fee as applicable.
Step 4. Scrutiny of the application by the BIS officers.
Step 5. Factory inspection will be conducted by the BIS officer at the factory premises.
Step 6. During factory inspection, BIS officer will check plant layout, process flow chart, competency of the QCI Person, testing facilities, etc., and after verification, samples will be sealed by the BIS officer.
Step 7. Dispatch the samples sealed by the BIS officer during inspection to the concerned BIS Central laboratory and submit the POD (proof of delivery) of the samples on the BIS Manak Portal.
Step 8: After the final examination of all the documents by the head of the BIS Department, the license for BIS on wheel rims will be granted.
