As per the BIS Act, 2016, the compulsory registration system is governed by the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Rules, 2018 (Schedule II of Schedule II). The program aims to support the rapidly growing electronics and information technology sector while protecting Indian consumers from counterfeit and substandard products. This has increased the global competitiveness of domestic producers and given Indian customers the freedom to purchase products that meet international quality standards. Through this approach, the Indian government has been able to bridge the gap between people, technology and security and prevent non-conforming goods from being thrown away.BIS Certification for electronics & IT products (Requirement for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2012″ was announced by the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) (formerly DeitY) on October 3, 2012, and it applies to fifteen categories of electronic products. MeitY added fifteen more product categories to this order on November 13th, 2014. On October 24, 2016, MeitY also announced an Indian Standard for “Indian Language Support for Mobile Phones.” MeitY added an additional thirteen product categories under compulsory BIS Certification for electronics & IT products on August 23, 2017.In accordance with the Photovoltaic Products, Systems, Devices and Components (Compulsory Registration Requirements) Order dated September 5, 2017, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has introduced mandatory BIS certification for registered electronic and IT products. I have registered 5 products below. No person shall manufacture, hold for sale, import, sell, or distribute any goods that do not comply with regulations and do not bear standard markings with a unique registration number obtained from BIS. By registering on the basis of self-declaration of conformity of products and articles to Indian Standards, the Bureau of Indian Standards grants the manufacturer a license to use or affix the standard mark with a unique R number. According to Schedule II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations 2018, “the grant of licenses and their operation under the compulsory registration system shall be subject to the conformity assessment system”.
