Registration procedure with the CPCB (Central Pollution Control Board)

The following procedure can be used to get EPR  Certificate for Plastic Waste Management-

Types of plastic packaging categories covered under EPR certification

  • Category I – Rigid plastic packaging
  • Category II – Flexible plastic packaging consisting of one or more layers (two or more layers containing different types of plastic), plastic film or similar and plastic film covers, carrying bags, plastic bags or pouches plastic.
  • Category III – Multilayer plastic packaging (at least one layer of plastic and at least one layer of non-plastic material).
  • Category IV – Plastic films or similar used in compostable plastic packaging and transport bags.

Prohibited items include stirrers, plates, cups, glasses, cutlery, straws, trays, plastic wrap or wrapping around candy boxes, headphones with plastic sticks, balloon sticks, plastic flags, and candy. sticks, ice cream sticks, and polystyrene foam (thermocol), ornaments. 

The Plastic Waste Management Amendment Regulations 2021 with effect from December 31, 2022 prohibits the manufacture, import, storage, distribution, sale and use of plastic carry bags with a thickness of less than 75 microns, 100 microns and less than 20 microns

Cancellation and Renewal Procedures Of EPR Authorization for plastic waste management

  • Registration granted for PIBOs under the PWM Rules, 2016 (as amended), does not require renewal and shall be changed only on the request of Producers,  Importers & Brand owners, under the existing Extended Producer Responsibility registration.
  • If PIBOs provide fraudulent documentation to EPR, their registrations may be cancelled or terminated at any moment.
